Connecticut State Parks Project
For this project, we selected a state and three state parks within it to create a set of logos and poster inspired by Public Works Project posters. I chose Connecitcut, and the three parks Lover’s Leap State Park, Gillette Castle, and Dinosaur State Park. For the poster, in keeping with the Public Works style of romanticism and exaggerating nature’s grandeur, I used one point perspective to exaggerate the scale of the bridge and gorge below it. I used the foliage in the forefront to frame, and have the body copy set near the bottom to draw the eye up from the dark foreground and continue through the poster.
The logo sets were inspired partially by boy scout badges, and their nature association- keeping them in a uniform border. Because all three of my parks feature historic buildings, I used the form of theme buildings and negative space to imply the structures where they break out. As these are supposed to be a full state system, I kept the text outside the border- as it has to be able to fit a variety of sizes in names, and could be cramped inside the border. I keep the type consistent across all of them by scaling down the second line to imply the rest of the diamond shape with the text.
