Design Culture Now Typography Poster

Advertising a Design Culture Now event, the goal for the project was to create a visually exciting poster with only type that both created interest in the event and clearly communicated the various speakers information.

Because the information is a mostly relatively short units of information (name, studio, date) I used these as separate steps to layout a line of visual movement through the poster. With a very rounded and whimsical title font, I used the shape of it as the starting point for a wavy, curvy rhythm that the lower information imitates with its curves. Due to the less constructed layout of the information, I kept all information in a consistent pattern for ease finding specific details- name, studio and information, date and time, back to the next name again.

I used a purple/yellow-orange scheme, the dark value of the purple being used for the most important information and ‘turns’ to keep the eye along the line. I wanted the title to be visually distinct from the body copy, and more unified than if it were spread along a curve as well. I instead used spacing and shading to give it a sense of being layered and moving between each other- 3D movement keeps it as active as they body while still being dominant and unified.
